I went for a run at the end of April and since that tentative start, I’ve run three half-marathons. It’s what I do now on the weekend, I run a half-marathon along forest trails. This surprises me more than it would anyone else, for even as a young man I had never managed anything further than ten kilometres.
And alternating the activities of running and cycling keeps me keen and hungry. Both the activities are simple, repetitive and mostly, at least for me, solitary. Fundamentally, it’s the meditative nature that appeals but then there is so much more that holds me.
Already in July, our time goes by so quickly. The odometer reads 5,882 kilometres and my goal for the year is to ride (and run) 12,000 kilometres.
