The Epiplectic Bicycle
by Old Bone Machine
It was the day after Tuesday and the day before Wednesday.
And so the tale of The Epiplectic Bicycle begins. A tale of two bickering siblings, Embley and Yewbert, an untenanted bicycle (one without pedals or chain), a large bird, an alligator and surrealist adventure aplenty.
The Epiplectic Bicycle written and drawn by Edward Gorey, delights and confounds. It reads like a cautionary tale and amidst the mayhem there may be a moral. Perhaps. Indeed. If only the reader were to glean the meaning of the word epiplectic.
Happy 88th Birthday, Edward, I wish you were still about to delight and confound us.
My mission in life is to make everybody as uneasy as possible. I think we should all be as uneasy as possible, because that’s what the world is like.
