Before Banksy, there was Keith Haring who worked as a graffiti artist in New York City in the early 1980s. Haring, with his playful and colourful figures explored themes of birth and death, sex and love, the cycle of life. His distinctive, sometimes political street art engendered interest, provoked reaction and brought him fame. Haring was born in 1958 and died in 1990 of AIDS-related complications.
The Cinelli Laser bicycle with disc wheels painted by Keith Haring is a work of art, an object of beauty. The first prototype of the Laser was exhibited in 1979.
And finally a street art image of Lance Armstrong in yellow, a response to the recent scandal and his confession. The doping rat, chasing the cheese. Not a Banksy original, for it lacks the artist’s edge and subtlety, rather a work inspired by the graffiti master.
